Perfect! I go from fig pops to 1 gallon. Then will go to 5 to 7 g pots.

Last year I started cuttings in clear Solo-like cups under lights in my basement. Up potted to two gallon pots in mid February. I began acclimating them to outside sun in early April in the two gallon pots. In July I uppotted again to 10 gallon pots.

I put the 10 gallon pots in my backyard a couple feet from the southern wall of my house. By the time the season was over and I stored the trees for winter, the fig roots had grown out of the pots and into the soil. The tallest trees (RDB and JH Adriatic) were well over 6 feet tall from the surface of the pot. For now I'm not going larger than 10 gallon pots. Based on the stuff I'd read and videos I watched I assumed I could keep them in 10 gallon pots for 3 years or so. But given how many roots they grew last year, I think I should have root pruned during dormancy as you did.

I wonder if I had up potted more gradually if it would have kept the trees smaller and nodes closer together - which is what I'd prefer as a container grower.

As always, very informative, I still do the gradual up potting. It seems to work for me and present growing method. I do the same process when planting my veggies scrape the roots to encourage a more vigorous growth.

Do you do this when up potting from the small one you rooted them in, or are they too young and fragile at that point? I just up potted yesterday from what I rooted mine in two months ago.
