The pure Caucasian zubr is extinct, but some of its descendants, mixed with Polish and American bison before people knew any better, have been reintroduced into the Caucasus.
All living bison descend from Bison priscus, but the ancestors of American bison, before they crossed Beringia, spent some time in eastern Asia, yakking it up.

Bison, also known as wisents are a genus of true cattle (subtribe Bovina) that are native to both North America and Europe, there are two living species of bison, the European Bison (Bison bonasus) and the American Bison (Bison bison), the closest living relative of the bison is the Yak (Poephagus grunniens) of the Himalayas, a cattle is any bovid that belongs to the tribe Bovini, there are three extant subtribes of cattle, Pseudorygina - the saola lineage (contains 1 genus: Pseudoryx (contains 1 species: Pseudoryx nghetinhensis)), Bubalina - the buffalo (contains 3 genera: Anoa (contains 2 species: Anoa quarlesi and Anoa deprivation), Bubalus (contains 2 species: Bubalus bubalis and Bubalus mindorensis), and Syncerus (contains 2 species: Syncerus caffer and Syncerus nanus)), and Bovina - the true cattle (contains 4 genera: Bibos (contains 3 species: Bibos sauveli, Bibos javanicus, and Bibos gaurus), Bos (contains 2 species: Bos primigenius and Bos namadicus), Poephagus (contains 1 species: Poephagus grunniens), and Bison (contains 2 species: Bison bonasus and Bison bison)).
