Navigating unconscious bias – Keynote, Pursuing DEI (April 2024)

Embark on a journey of workplace inclusivity and at Pursuing DEI, a virtual summit dedicated to fostering diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces.

Our keynote speaker, Rubiena Duarte, Vice-President, Global Diversity & Inclusion, Procore Technologies, discussed the prevalence of unconscious bias in the workplace and the importance of recognizing and mitigating these biases to create an inclusive culture.

She highlighted various types of unconscious bias—including affinity bias and halo/horn effect bias—and provided examples of how they can manifest in different environments. Rubiena says the construction industry can make itself more appealing to young talent by highlighting its diversity and inclusivity, citing examples of how the industry can be presented in a more positive light.

Pursuing DEI was jointly presented by Electrical Business, HPAC, and Onsite magazines, all members of Annex Business Media’s Construction Group.
