Yeah, Ambon is actually about 60% Christian, so visiting the city during Ramadan shouldn’t be an issue at all. That said, if you’re heading to the major cities in Java, you’ll still be fine even though they’re Muslim-majority; plenty of shops and restaurants stay open. However, there are more conservative areas in the provinces where most shops do close during Ramadan, so it depends on where you go.

As for durian, it’s always fascinating to hear foreigners describe the taste. Even among Indonesians, the fruit is divisive; some absolutely love it, while others can’t stand it. But regardless of how we feel about it, it’s something we’ve been familiar with our entire lives. For us, it’s less about discovering its flavor and more about growing up with it as part of our culture.

Respect to the shop owner for accommodating you during Ramadan. I'd love to see that part of the world

I got to attend a durian festival when I was in Indonesia for work, and I'm pretty sure this is the variety I liked most. The locals who took me out gave me a hard time for liking a "mild" variety, but it was the perfect "gateway durian"!

We call the gros Michelle banana in malay as pisang ambon, didn't know it's a place.

Also wow you have quite the back catalog of videos since Ramadan was nearly a year ago.

If there's one channel on the internet that definitely pays its Cat Tax, it's this one.

Ah yes the spice islands of Indonesia.... you aren't far from the Reticulated Coconut, Spider Apple, and Indochinese Gooseberry!

One of my favorite things to do with Durian is mix it with Strawberries and I feel like this would be a good one to do that with. To me it tastes like a dessert (but healthier)

Love from Cebu!

Interesting... out of all the Durian I've seen you eat this is the closest to the one I had in Manila in (May or June) 2016. Tasted like custard and vodka and only a little larger than the ones shown in the video. I also remember my friend and translator saying that we were lucky to find it as the season was supposed to be over by then.

2:23 Funky Durians sounds like a great name for a Bubblegum Punk band. Their first album could be titled _I'm OK with Funky Durians._ The hit single from that album is _I Like Ones That Are a Little Bit More Fruity...( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_

Yay!!! More durian fruits!!! I'm very slowly acquiring a taste for the stuff, but up here in WNY my only option is frozen stuff or the VERY RARE occasion that the Asian supermarket actually has a few available. I'm currently saving up for a trip where I can try some of these fruits fresh off the tree!!! Thank you for being such an awesome inspiration!❤

Such a cool little region. Not only the food and culture, but the people seem nice :)

Just have to say. I found you years ago and have tried so many new fruits because of this channel. Thanks for introducing me to Miamifruits and even more bizzare and rare fruits

Ah yes durian. That one definitely sounds worth trying. I’m right there with you on opinion of durians. The fruitier sweeter ones are best. It always seems they are a mixture of flavors and fragrances but it’s more enjoyable when it’s fruit custard with a hint of onion and garlic, and challenging when one smells like garbage and tastes like a cross between custard, garlic, onion, metallic, and partially rancid raw chicken…
