The Duchenne Spectrum of Behaviors:
4 Areas to Consider

As you may know, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is most often associated with weakness in the body itself. What most people don't know is that Duchenne also affects the brain and emotions.

It's so important to recognize that unpredictable or extreme Duchenne behavior really is rooted in the lack of dystrophin in the brain. The behaviors truly are not intentional or purposeful. The brain of an individual with Duchenne experiences constant stress, even if the individual feels relaxed.

In this 3 minute clip, Dr. Natalie Truba explains in detail the 4 areas that this brain stress manifests itself: learning, emotions, maladaptive coping strategies and sleep.
