As someone who lives in bay county Florida, right where Michael made landfall, it’s just crazy how tranquil the satellite footage looks, as opposed to the indescribable fear felt during, and devastation afterwards. Saying it looked like a war zone may be cliché, but it’s totally accurate. It was as if we were targeted by an air raid with countless bombs dropped all over the county. Four years later and we are still rebuilding much of the infrastructure, clearing fallen trees that were in the millions, and many of us are still trying to rebuild our lives after Michael took everything from us. Now, southwest Florida is going through the very same thing with hurricane Ian. If you have the means to help in any way, no matter how small, please do so. It was the generosity of others from outside the state that got us through the month plus of no power, the lack of food, clean water, and all other necessities. I remember this one guy drove over from Texas with his grill, set it up in the side field of the local grocery store I work at and cooked up hot food for all who needed. Like I said, it doesn’t matter how small of an act of assistance it is, every thing helps. Even sending old clothes that you no longer want helps, because most of us literally lost everything, including our clothes, so please, if you can do anything to help those impacted by Ian, please do so. I can’t describe how much it meant for total strangers to show up to help us the way so many did.

stepping outside during the eye was the most surreal thing ive ever experienced. hurricane Micheal was one of the horrific things ive ever been through and ive been through DV before. that day, and the days that followed are some i’ll never forget as long as i live.

And yet this hurricane always gets overlooked by everyone even though its the most recent hurricane to actually make landfall as a category 5... 🤦
