So much in 90 seconds! The tip about using the screen to zoom in and then focus on the image is exactly what I needed. Appreciate the tip.

Some great tips there, especially like the one about the focus point.

Just found video, great tips thank you, honestly thought the poor cats tea towel holder was about to be violated at the end though😂

Hi Gavin

Thanks for sharing. I've posted a similar video of my top techniques for sharp photos. Looks like we have a lot of overlap (which would not be surprising).

The one question I do have for you is why you choose to use live view on the screen?

I agree with the manual focus. But I find I get a better feel for the image through the optical viewfinder. That being said, I have not used the live view on my DSLR in some time (only on my older point and shoot cameras).

Would be interested to know your opinion. Perhaps I need to relook at how I compose my shots.

Terrance.

Hi Gavin, I have just started watching your videos and they are great. I tried taking pictures today using live view and zooming in to focus like you said. I had a few problems I am hoping you can help with me. What I noticed when I was working with view finder and set my settings I could see great. When I switched it to live view, the screen was darker so I couldn't see my landscape very well. I lowered my shutter speed which helped a bit, but it only went down to 1/30sec. If I was in viewfinder I was at 1/10sec but live view wouldn't let me do that. Why is that and I do I fix it? Thanks Heidi

For some reason my AF failed on my wide angle lens in the field (probably an accidental setting). So to save time I resorted to MF
And bingo it works better than auto 👍

No, No, No, Your advice about Fstop is incorrect. Learn about diffraction and where it starts on your camera. I have a D7100 and diffraction starts at F/8. Shooting at fstops like f/11, f/16 or higher will result in a picture that is less sharp. There are lots of good explanations of diffraction on the web, but you should learn
