i just realized:
this song is the exact opposite of the whole show. yeah, we already knew that (cathy and jamie are together for the first time in the same place at the same time and singing to each other). but if you try to find the opposite title for "the last five years": the opposite of last is next. five is a number so it doesn't have an opposite, but 10 is the double of 5. the opposite of years (a long period of time) could be minutes (a short period of time). so by naming the song "the next ten minutes" jason robert brown already told us this was going to be the opposite of what he's been doing during the whole show. he's a genius 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is great. The song in the context of the show is devastating, because you know the relationship will never work. This song in a cabaret setting, though, is really cool and works well.
