i feel like this is a response to someone telling him to have some "hope" so he sarcastically "hopes" for things

I'm very glad that they have no children

For a song where almost every line contains the word "hope, " there's a LOT of pure, unadulterated despair here...

There’s something about the pause between “and I hope you die” “I hope we both die.” It feels like the person realizes that the death of the one they’re singing about won’t be enough to erase whatever happened, and that they themself would also have to die to move past it. I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving those lines.

This is the best song ever about hopelessness. It is total commitment to losing.

Idk what but the line “hand in unloveable hand” just hits different for me

This gives me "song that plays in the final credits of a really good movie that at the beginning was comedy but at the end is really deep and with a very sad ending that makes you feel like your soul don't exist anymore and you are still processing the ending and the whole meaning of life" vibes

i don't know why but the "hand in unlovable hand" always hits me so hard

This is probably the angriest song I've ever heard.

This isn’t a song about hate, it’s a song about fear. It’s about fearing what is already written on the walls, and trying to take control in a desperate attempt to convince yourself that you’re broken enough to sadistically crave and embrace the co-self-destruction.

I'd *love* to hear a song from the other partner's perspective.

When you hate someone else almost as much as you hate yourself.

This song has no damn business being this damn catchy.

I think one of my favorite parts of this song is that aside from the "and tell everyone you were a good wife" line, it can be for any type of toxic relationship, whether romantic, platonic, or familial.

"I am drowning. There is no sign of land. You are coming down with me. Hand in unlovable hand"
That. That right there? Favorite part music wise and lyrically

This song makes me want to throw a piano down some stairs.

this song feels like the deep compulsion to stay in a dark place because it's all you've ever known and you're scared of change. even if you're actively trying to get better, there's a part of you that doesn't want to.

"you are coming down with me" i love how that lyric can be seen in two different ways. 'you are coming down with me' implying that she is drowning in her own self hatred WITH him and 'you ARE coming down with me' implying that he WILL make her drown with him. amazing song
