I wasn't after office 365. I am after something with a one time license fee. Something that is a year or two old is OK.

Some of these products come with a DVD and box.
Ebay has a lot of Office licenses and the prices vary a fair bit.

Can't work out what's legal and what's not for the newer stuff e.g. 2019 Office

hi indeed as you say this is the only LEGIT proof way of doing it... so many people confuse legit and it activates well it's like someone giving you a house door, it activates, the key fits and the door opens... but is it legit to enter the house? depends if the owner has given right to do it yes otherwise no but in any cases the door opens...

I paid £2.54 for my windows 10 pro key and £11 for office (not 365...not paying a sub for something which I'm only going to use office for). Had for about a year without issues, even if I did have issues down the line it would be cheaper to just get another key.
