Guys remember this review was in 2012. I recently played Papo & Yo and I played it from start to finish in 2-3 days since I had breaks aswell. It is a short game about a boy who the monster posing as his father has drinking problems. The boy wants to find a way to cure his problems by exploring this world that I personally think is the dreaming. The ending I found got me a better understanding of what has happen. Btw the doll things are collectables for achievement. It's like a second playthrough thing.

I would give this a 9/10

Don't pay any attention to this review. They are talking a load of rubbish. This is a great game. And to the person who said this was on PC first. Nope PS3.

What the hell!! It's like the reviewer is talking about a a different game to the one I just finished. I ran into ZERO bugs in this game and it had a totally stable framerate.
So the game doesn't have "photo-realistic graphics". So what. The art style and graphics fit the tone of this game perfectly in my opinion.
Lastly it cost me just under £3 which was a bargain. I would have gladly paid £10 for this back when it first came out but my backlog meant I had other games that took preference at that time.
This review just goes to remind me why I NEVER listen to IGN when making my purchasing. I never let reviews solely dictate what I buy but I do take them into account. IGN reviews, I just ignore completely!!

This game is great! Sure it has its flaws (it definitely needs some better graphics), but the story was well done, and I actually really liked the puzzles. Most of them weren't hard to pull off, but they all added depth and personality to the game. I'm glad I got this for free through PS Plus! I would have gladly paid 5 bucks for it! 8/10

They changed the title from "Papo Y Yo" to "Papo & Yo" for a reason though. The developers intended for the title to be pronounced as it looks. It's consumer smarts.

Here's what I understood from the review:

1) Here at IGN we only praise big-budget, big-advertisement, AAA titles.

2) Here at IGN we prefer technically proficient games that have no soul or artistic merit, over artistic games with bugs in them.

3) Here at IGN we only praise smaller/independant games that people already have discovered and fell in love with.

4) Here at IGN we like the XBLA over the PSN.

5) Here at IGN we are too narrowminded to appetiate Papo & Yo.

It's just console that this game is bugged out on. The PC version seems fine, and I'd recommend it if you like an interesting story.

If you like games like ICO and Journey and other arty indie titles with a focus on great music and story with soul, then buy this game! I've have no technical difficulties on steam, it was a pleasure to play.

The bug issues were legitimate, but I CAN'T STAND when professional reviewers don't understand a first-time game developer isn't going to have textures up to par with big studios or even the well known independent ones. Don't say the art style is great and then go on to say "it just doesn't look very good". I don't know if IGN is unaware of how much their reviews influence people or they just don't care at the end of the day.

If we only had Gamespot's review, then prospective gamers would have a skewed, undoubtedly positive vision of the game, rather than understanding its strengths and weaknesses, which you guys took the time to point out. So thank you for being honest with your criticism.

I hate how any game trying to do something different with the story is "artsy for the sake of being artsy."

This isn't some lame walking simulator with some graphical gimmick or something. It's not up it's own ass with it's "artsy-ness." If this game comes off as "too artsy" for you maybe you should lighten up and just enjoy it instead of being afraid of being "hipsterized."

That is so true. I thought Ico when I played it personally. I like to put these sorts of games in a new genre: Art games.

Well on the pc version i experienced no bugs, no crashes and I don't think the game was aesthetically ugly. Its hard for an indie developer to optimise a game for a console and have good textures and effects.
