Sailing the Caribbean Ocean, around British Virgin Islands- On a Catamaran...!

I never thought I'd go there, but here we are- sailing a huge catamaran around the Carribean ocean! Im aways up to try new things. When Andrew Hesketh, from the Ocean Cruiser Podcast, asked me if I wanted to be a skipper on one of the boats participating in the Sailing Odyssey Festival around British Virgin Islands for one week- I couldnt say no. Me and Silje took a flight over from Norway to Tortola. And we did not regret it!

Join my boat in Sailing Odyssey Festival, Greece, September 2024:

I love the look of a sailboat more than a catamaran. One has classic good looks and the other reminds me of a house boat. Could be great in some situations but sailboats like yours rock!

I love the direction your life is taking, Erik!😊🤗👍💯 Naturally, as opportunities arise, and you participate in them AND choose to share them with us, they will include a little diversity into warmer climates and different boats. We are fortunate to be part of your world! This is all awesome. ❤🤩😎👏🏻🌊💨💫

I spent the week on a catamaran in the BVI. The best trip of my life, I hope I’m able to return one day. This video brought back great memories👍

Erik you brought the gale force winds to the Caribbean! 😂 it was a blast. I don't think I realized at the time just how lucky we were to have such inclement winds and beating seas. Loved every minute and looking forward to Greece!

5:30 Bless you cilia! (sp?)
So happy to see you in the BVI, Erik.
My grandfather skippered bareboats there back in the late 80s and I have been there several times including a power-cat trip in 2015.
This brought back a lot of memories.

While it was fun to see you in the Caribbean, your uniquenesd is in the rough north sea. Not many sailors can handle those waters like you. Looking forward to more norwegian episodes. And I still think you should use lifelines more often on deck ;-)

I just returned from sailing in the VI, love love sailing in that area. So much to see and great snorkeling. And Pizza Pi in Christmas Cove was a treat. We sailed past Jos van dyke, huge cruise ship in port at the time.

Nice Erik! We need more sailing Tesse in big seas. Got to be some of the best sailing on youtube and your sailboat is looking so so perfect now!

Looked like a fantastic experience. Cats are something else, the room on them is insane compared to our mono hulls.

Utsira was stunningly beautiful. As was Silje!
Those Fountaine Pajot catamarans are amazing. I've been looking at 38' catamarans for a couple of years now, planning for when my wife can retire. We'd probably move from Alaska to the U.S. East Coast where my family live, buy a catamaran and sail to BVI and the American virgin islands, from Miami, which is only about 50 miles. That's my dream!
Loved the Selden single line furler for your new, good looking Rolly Tasker gennaker! Sure makes putting that thing away SO much easier and safer. That's important if you have to drop it quickly in a squall. You don't even need to go forward, until you want to drop the furled sail.
I sailed a 38' catamaran about 900 miles 4 years ago from San Diego, California to Cabo san Lucas, Mexico. My first time on a 'cat' and like you, I too was impressed. I was on watch at 1am with the asymmetrical spinnaker up, doing 11-12 knots! Just flying downwind! But it was nearly too fast so I dropped the sock on the sail and rolled out the gennaker instead. Speaking of squalls, they're common in the Caribbean and it looks like you got caught by one! Best to furl early. The radar should show you the rainfall coming your direction from those squalls.
Great video my friend. Looking forward to the next one to Up Helly AA!

Wow, fantastic time. I hired a 16ft Hoby Cat in France once at Concarnau bay in Brittany. Fantastic fun. My good friend who is an Albacore international champion, helmed for a bit and got it on one keel for about 5 miles out to sea. Exhilarating
