These Actors Got Greedy And Then Were Fired

We tend to think of movies and television shows as having unlimited budgets, but that's not the case. Every penny may not count, but thousands and millions definitely do. When an actor asks for a raise in production, you could say the actors are greedy, or oyu could say they deserve every penny they're asking for and more. And in extreme cases, they ask for so much that it seems like they're pushing the envelope because they want to leave the role. For whatever reason, all of the following actors asked for a bigger slice and lost the whole pie because of it. These are actors who got greedy and then got fired.

Do you feel any of these actors were justified?

Sources differ but according to some accounts, Empire star Jussie Smollett was dissatisfied with the salary he was getting on the show and demanded a pay raise many times. It got to the point where the producers of Empire got tired of his demands and planned on killing his character off for the show's fifth season. He found out about this and staged a racial hoax on himself in the hopes that newfound fame and attention would convince the show runners to keep him on and up his salary. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned as his attack was quickly exposed as a hoax and he was fired from the show anyway.

It's a very misleading title. In most of the cases a more appropriate one would be ' Film companies got greedy and tried to screw over the actors

Tobey Maguire story makes sense because 4 million is too little for a franchise that made a billion dollars plus he's the main character.

Kristie Alley wasn't greedy. She had every right to ask why her fee was lower even if the role was bigger in the next movie.

I can understand that smaller, lesser known actors ask for more money if they’re genuinely getting low balled, but it surprises me when people like Lopez ask for more money they already have so much…..

Didn’t the same thing happened with Terrance Howard & Edward Norton when they were War Machine and The Hulk in the MCU?

The "Friends" cast tried a clever tactic.

The six main cast members made a pact, to each ask for the exact same payrise, to each be paid one million each per episode, or all six of them would walk.

Knowing that all six cast members leaving would spell the end of the show, they each got their mill an ep payrise.

JLo was a major drawback for Idol, and one of the reasons I stopped watching it. She brought literally nothing positive to the show, and significant baggage. I hated her as a judge and had no respect for her abilities.

Kirstie Alley's version of events is not supported by anyone else involved in ST 3. Rather, her agent asked for a much higher fee--higher than Deforest Kelly, a bedrock of the franchise, was getting for the film. Leonard Nimoy, the director of the film, was told there was no flexibility in Alley's position, so he was forced to recast the role.

I think these stuidos do this as a precendent. The reason being, if one actor in the cast starts demanding more money than the other actors in the cast are going to follow suit.
It's not only for a series they have to this, but also for the whole studio network. There could be no end of actors wanting more cash however there's something called a budget.
Sometimes it can not be avoided. Peter Falk is an example. The Columbo series was more than just popular it became an epic. Falk was irreplaceable.
The Sherlock Holmes character has been played by dozens of actors over the years, but no one, but no one could be Columbo except Peter Falk. He became the roll.

I also heard that Will Smith not only wanted his kids in Independence Day Resurgence with him but also that they were to have talking roles rather than used as background actors

When you're threatened with being replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal, that's a pretty blatant insult

Time Warner wasn't paying Tom Wopat and John Schneider their royalties on merchandise bearing their likenesses. Later, James Best (Roscoe P Colltraine) sued Time Warner over the same issue.

I'm surprised Looper left out one of the most infamous cases... Suzanne Somers. She demanded a 400%+ pay raise before returning for Three's Company's fifth season and even tried to strike to force the producers. After a few episodes that demoted her to just the last minute of a few episodes, she got cut. That led to a bunch of ugly lawsuits.

James Doohan, " Scotty" later said " You either take what they give you in pay, or they write you out of the story, or replace you." This was about the Star Trek movies with the original crew.

That awkward moment when you say no to $400k and make $0 for the rest of your life instead.

one other thing: you sign a contract, you stick to it...you can't demand more because the movie\tv show does well. how would you like to buy a car and have the seller say, "oh, since you like it, I'm going to double the price"??
