A message to young people from Mary Butler TD, Minister with responsibility for Mental Health and Older People, for World Mental Health Day, Saturday 10th October 2020.
TRANSCRIPT:
Hello, I am Mary Butler TD, Minister with responsibility for Mental Health and Older People.
We are living in times of great uncertainty and for young people in particular, Covid-19 has introduced challenges that are stressful and worrying.
As a mother, I know what my own children are thinking and feeling and it is not easy to say that everything will be fine – yet we must try to remain as positive as possible.
Getting good rest, taking part in exercise and eating well are good ways to keep our physical and mental health in good shape……..
But also…. if we don’t feel okay – it is important to look for advice and help now rather than wait. Families and friends will listen but sometimes more help is required.
Sometimes it can be hard to find a service that can help and that is why I am publishing this new leaflet
This leaflet provides you with information about 12 organisations that support young people. You can call, text or email services and get information and support from professionals and volunteers who understand what you are going through.
The leaflet also provides details on what doctors can do and how they can help. Information is included on out of hours emergency services for anyone who is in crisis.
Young people are very important to me and please know:
It is okay not to feel okay and it is also okay to ask for help
Take care of yourselves.
