Whitby Church Street Closed - Bomb Alert !!!

A local man believed he had found a bomb on Tate Hill Beach at Whitby this evening.

My wife went to work this morning charity shop and when she went to open the shop some scumbag had kicked in the front door and nicked all the mens clothes .Anyway she phoned the police a 9.50 and was told someone else had reported it an hour earlier and police will be on the way, she came home at 1600hrs no police turned up rapid responce force uk

We used to find landmines in the woods on cross country runs from school, near Portsmouth. One boy carried one all the way back to school to show us all the historic artifact that he had discovered. Everyone was evacuated!
Someone else was helping his father make a fire in the fireplace & noticed something odd looking amongst the coal at the back of the fireplace. The lad pointed it out to his Dad. Father had been in the army & knew immediately what it was. By that time the fire was lit, he told his son to open doors & go straight to the end of the garden & go into the outside toilet. Dad grabbed a shovel, picked up the bomb before the flames could reach it, gently laid it in a hole in the flower-bed & they went back in & phoned the bomb disposal squad.

Someone did the same as that in Ynyslas in Wales. Found a WW1 shell on the beach, didn't realise what it was, then proceeded to pick it up and walk all the way to the Nature Centre with it to ask them if they knew what it was!!!!

I remember that Tony Hancock found a bomb in his Cheam back garden and was convinced it was a Martian spaceship, claiming that 'Achtung' faintly discernable on its side was Martian for Acton, not that far away. I think of my parents walking in the park at Newport watching the parachute mines coming down over the docks Nobody clearing the streets at that time.
