I think that scene needed to be much more drawn out either way. It impacted Tony's future actions and decisions so much that if they'd kept it really short, it wouldn't showcase how insanely traumatic that moment was for Tony. He's helped mentor this kid and has basically taken on a familial position in Peter's life and he's watching the kid he put all of his faith into, die, while he can do nothing to stop it. The spider senses give a good reason to prolong the scene but regardless of that fact, it needed to be longer so we'd understand the impact it had on Tony. After Peter's death we basically just watch Tony spiral and I think this scene makes it clear that anyone in his position would.
