These are all stellar, logical points and really explain why the 20mil number will genuinely start to make a big difference. Fact of the matter is, we have to start somewhere. Once people genuinely see the change in environment and what effects it has, then it can absolutely push to try and make even more changes to help further better our dying world.

It isn’t going to solve climate change, but it’s a great step to showing that we care about this issue and nothing bad has ever happened because a tree was planted.

The biggest thing that will help is investing in green energy sources and limiting the Amount of fossil fuels being used every day.

I was skeptical about China planting trees so I looked into it and actually found something interesting. Since their policies encouraged fast growing species of tree they planted a lot of forests of only one species which decreased biodiversity. The species of trees aren't even native so they don't make good habitats for the native animals. An important lesson that I hope the teamtrees folks have learned from.

I live in the countryside, and constantly, more trees are being cut down to make way for houses, expanding the local town, and I hate it. And I am seeing a lot more road kill.

Another thing the naysayers should look at is the number of people to how many trees. I guarantee there hasn't really been something like this before, at least not recently. In the total world population, a very, very small comparative number of people are planting an amazing amount of trees through their donations. And this whole affair has had several millionaires donating as well, to the foundation itself.

To be honest, a massive Forest near Los Angeles would be a REALLY bad idea because it would be a massive fire hazard due to those mentioned hot temperatures. Cities like New York farther in the north could benefit more without having the danger of 20 million trees blackening the sky.

I love this idea but have a few suggestions.
1) Check with your local regulations to see where this is allowed. We do not want our efforts torn up due to the roots of that tree interfering with water or gas pipelines, or even foundations of buildings.
2) Triple check what you are planting. Many native Flora are being threatened due to how well certain species can invade, choking out resources for other plants. Think things like tumbleweed, mesquite, buffelgrass, and others. These may or may not be native to your area. Where I live, all three of these have had negative impacts on our local ecosystems.

Just because it’s only 20 million people should be happy that people, no not just your average people. Youtubers people society makes out to be lazy, egotistical, and not do anything for society is doing something meaningful in the first place. Sure it may not be a lot, but who’s to say they won’t raise that amount went they reach their goal? I think people just need to appreciate what people are trying to do and stop looking at the numbers. It’s like someone donating a hundred dollars and someone saying “oh you could’ve given more” like he didn’t HAVE to do that, he didn’t even have to give 1 dollar but he gave 100. Just be happy people are doing something. I, for one, am very happy that people are starting to care more about the environment. More and more people are cleaning the oceans, more and more people are reusing and recycling, and more people are planting trees. As a lover of animals I’m glad to see people, both rich and poor, trying to make a difference. It may not do anything for oxygen but I’m positive birds and squirrels and other cute creatures will love the fact they have a home.
