Yes. I too lived in Hawai'i nei from 1954 until I left in 1972. I am now a member of the Polynesian Voyaging Society. Mahalo for your fascinating info on the skies. You must have been up on Mauna Kea on the Big Island, for the observatories up there. I was in Haleakala crater many years ago. I clearly recall how close and how far many stars were. Even at night the sky was glowing with that mysterious luminosity that usually appears as a canopy of stars. But, up here, in its dust-free atmosphere, I could see a vast ocean of various cosmic phenomena. I noticed the depth of vision, such that many stars seemed closer than others. In fact, I felt that I could reach up and grab a handful of these celestial gems.
