I was friends with wmd around 2013-2014 when I first started making music. Used to listen to this and other songs of his while I drove around delivering pizza, I would think "man I wish I could do this". I decided I would try and sent him an album I made, he apparently enjoyed it as we released a split "WMD/Yokai" a few months later. In the almost ten years since then ive recorded 17 albums, 5 EPs, and gone from hobbyist, to freelancer, to full time sound engineer for a developer I used to daydream of working for. the soft breathing in this song sets it apart from the remixes. don’t get me wrong, i love school rooftop/on top etc. but from 1:50 onwards, there’s a soft breathing sound that the other songs usually cover. it’s so simple yet so beautiful. you can interpret it so many ways. the song can be happy, maybe the breathing reminds you of when you’ve finally made it, and you have someone to fall asleep next to you, their soft breathing lulling you to sleep. the song can be sad, maybe the breathing is similar to sighing or crying, giving up and giving in to the depressing world around you. there’s a million ways to see it and i find it extremely beautiful. in school rooftop, there’s a similar effect you get from the sleigh bells in the background, but i think the breathing takes the cake.

I remember I would listen to this song on a Saturday night in university. I would just walk around campus reflecting everything about myself. Even thought it seems lonely, I felt at peace and it allowed me to reflect on what I should prioritize like grades, family, diet etc. Im very thankful for this song. It got me into medical school.
