I can now clarify that an IDP for a british national MUST be issued in the uk and not bought online from singapore.

British nationals who wish to drive in Malaysia (also applies to Thailand) must possess documents recognised by the Malaysian/Thai authorities. This can be either: a valid British driving licence and a UK-issued International Driving Permit. The "uk issued" makes it legal, anything purchased online such as from this suggestion which is coming from Singapore IS NOT LEGAL in a court of law should you have an accident. Be warned. A UK issued IDP costs £5.50p

I've had my £97 refunded. I found a paypoint store near me that will make a legimate IDP for £5.50p All I need to do is take licence, passport photo and passport, takes five minutes.

I have just applied for mine as the post office no longer do these. Total cost £97. yikes. (that does include £20 fedex express delivery. I leave the uk in three weeks time so I don't have time to go looking for a pay point outlet, I was going to go to the post office, but online I can see they stopped them a while ago now. The digital version arrived within minutes to download.
