This is Portugal's FIFTH gold medal in its Olympic history since the country's debut in 1912. The last time Portugal won gold was Beijing 2008, in coincidently the same event, Men's triple jump

And fun fact, Pedro is originally from CUBA! He represented Cuba from 2012 to 2016 at different championships including the Rio Olympics, but moved to Portugal and became a citizen there in 2017. These were his first Olympics competing as Portugal, his second Olympics overall, and he scores big. Huge congrats
