MULBERRY HARBOUR CAISSONS FROM ABOVE

These are the remains of an incredible structure which helped the allied forces win WW2 – the famous Mulberry artificial harbour in Normandy.
Lying off the beach in the beautiful towns of Asnelles and Arromanches, these are structures known as caissons which helped to create a breakwater around the sections of roadway which allowed allied forces to land millions of tons of war materiel and troops from ships anchored in the deeper waters off the beach.

These massive concrete constructions were built in England and towed across the English Channel before they were sunk at strategic positions around the two Normandy towns to form their protective barrier.

It's really amazing engineering thought. Great. Fortunately, I visited the Entire Normandy area in 2019 and could see the various structures standing. It's really amazing, and hats off to both side thinkers . Meticulously planned with detailed drawings by Field Marshall Rommel was mind-blowing. It shows the class of Field Marshall Rommel. It's sad that all such great engineering was wasted on the destruction of the mankind. Even today, we have not learned any lessons from World War and destruction is going on across the world, feeling very sad. I'm praying for a better sense prevail and stop such wars and destruction.
