It also has to do with personal preference. I actually started out as an indicator based trader, but I ended up transitioning to price action. And for me I highly preferred price action with maybe a couple MA's. But I had to do both to figure out what works for me. As for what's better? Although I'm a price action trader, I would say neither. Because it all depends on what works for you. You have successful price action traders as well as successful indicator based traders. At least that's my perspective on it.

Its easier to not use any indicator when you call /create direction of the market... but its very frustrating to trade without and Rsi for example as retail trader following the market and not creating it like the bigs guys are...the big guys dont need the rsi, because they know where they are going to move the market..but us we dont know where direction of market is going...i have tried price action alone without and rsi and i can tell you its not easy at all...it can happen that you bang your head 3 times in a day on just 1 day....only to find that the RSI is overbought or oversold when you turn it on...something or some losses you could have avoided if you had turned on the rsi.
