I personally made a setup to craft refined fuel from coal. Very efficient in a Compression Dynamo if augmented properly ( up to 400rf/t).

If you hold shift while looking at an inventory, such as the Wooden Crates, it'll show you what's in the crates without you having to open them up. Super useful.

Make some Immersive Engineering piping, and ExU2 drums. Prime them each with one bucket of water and one of lava. The IE piping acts the same as the top tier EnderIO Fluid Conduits. IE, it can have multiple fluids 'in' it, and only export them to the correct tank.

Tinker's Construct now has the Tinker's Tank, which is a non-mixing fluid tank, designed for storing fluid metals, but which should work just fine for storing water and lava together.

No Thermal Dynamics yet, which is the mod that has the ducting. It's coming though, so soon.
