I just started the First Law Trilogy. I wasn't interested at first bc everyone said it has zero plot. After watching your content I decided to start it. I love it! I just get the impression that Abercrombie knows exactly what he is doing and I'm in great hands. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try!

Rereading this series is like meeting up with old friends again... Logen, Glotka, even Jezel... you just savory ever scene they're in, what they say, what they're thinking. The character work is just so good, it's awesome being in their heads again. Also, need to put in the obligatory plug for the audio version of this series. Best audio production of a series I've ever heard. The narrator is fantastic.

Going to do my best to keep this PC. One thing that I think is under appreciated about Abercrombie is his ability to do the naughty bits in books. I would happily kickstart an effort to get him to write a grim dark bodice ripper. Logan and Ferro... Rikke and Leo... I have never laughed so much at a book in my life. He might have to trade mark the term "squelch" first.

I share these same exact sentiments about real world and First Law lol

Would you ever do a bookshelf tour? I would love to see all the different editions of books you have.

I just bought the box set today and since am finishing ASOIAF in a few days I will need another awesome series to tap into... Your videos about The First Law trilogy made me want to read them, so thanks, I guess?

Okay, I'd been meaning to read The Blade Itself for quite some time. I've a feeling it's just my sort of read. Your enthusiasm has settled it. I've a hard copy somewhere. I'm looking for it now!

Always good to be prepared- zombies, apocalypse ( swordsmanship essential). It's the mindset that will save you.

Ugh, you got me me to start the Blade Itself...and I like Glotka even though I've only experienced one chapter of the bastard.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve only just found your channel but I’ve just sat and watched all your First Law videos back to back. I’ve subscribed because anyone who has these amazing books as their favourites is someone I can trust! (I must admit was a bit upset you put Heroes as your worst book though, it has My favourite Abercrombie chapter in it plus Whirrun! Cheese traps! Gorst!) I ruined my first copy of The Blade Itself highlighting all my favourite Glokta lines (eg. All of them) and I don’t think I could pick a favourite character which is strange to say about a book of torturers, killers and conmen. Are you going to reread the other books too?

I love First Law, and yeah I think the first Shattered Sea is a bit of a let down. This makes me really want to reread the First Law. Glokta is the best!

Not being a native speaker... Man you speak fast! ;-)
But I love fantasy books and wanted to know, if you have a similar feeling for the books.
The plot is really not that exiting. But the characters are so special, twisted and fun to read... Maybe I should also reread the trilogy.
Or what would be your Abercromby-recommendation besides this trilogy?

One of the main reasons I love this series is because it doesn’t conform to the ‘hero saves the day & gets the girl’ narrative. It’s a breath of fresh air to have something so gritty & wrong, & nor does it rely on pay-offs. Not everything in First Law has a reason or consequence....kinda like real-life.
Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a good ‘hero journey’ like Star Wars & LotR — but I also read a lot of factual accounts of war. In real life, sadly, not every bad guy gets his comeuppance & not every hero is a bonafide Luke Skywalker. Abercrombie is absolutely my favourite contemporary fantasy author & he’s a master world-builder.
Additionally; Ardee West is without doubt my fictional crush☺️....give me a common-as-muck-northerner who’s not impressed by fancy nonsense & who likes a good ol’ piss-up any day....those soft southern highborn types are not worthy of such a woman!😂💪

My comfort fantasy series is and will always be The Lord of the Rings. Always. I just shut out the world and dive into these books like wrapping myself in a warm, comfy blanket.

Glokta 💕 frankly even the worst First Law characters far surpass what other authors can do at their best

I saw a comment on yt that Abercrombie is a bastard child of Martin and Pratchett and that's why I picked this trilogy. THE BEST DECISION OF MY READING LIFE
