The African wild dog, also known as the painted hunting dog, is a highly social and efficient predator found in sub-Saharan Africa. With a unique and striking coat of black, white, and brown patches, they are renowned for their incredible hunting success rate of up to 80%, making them one of the most successful hunters in the animal kingdom. African wild dogs are incredibly fast, can run at speeds of up to 44 miles per hour, and have excellent stamina, allowing them to chase down prey over long distances.
They also have powerful jaws and razor-sharp teeth, which they use to tear apart their prey quickly. Sadly, African wild dogs are considered endangered due to habitat loss, human encroachment, and disease outbreaks, with only around 6,000 individuals left in the wild.

I went to the Kilimanjaro Safaris in Animal Kingdom and the driver described them as "cute little murder machines"

I saw a massive pack of wild dogs with a litter of pups in South Africa on a safari and our guide said that when they go hunting they tend to leave an adult or two with pups as a baby sitter! I just thought that was really cute even if it’s obvious.

They are very TALL dogs! Larger than I expected when I saw them in person.

They also protect + nurse the sick & the lame, not abandoning (as do many species) but rather taking care of them until either they pass or are well enough to hunt with the pack again.

If I remember right, they also vote when deciding what to hunt. Like, the lead dog will bark a certain way and the other dogs can communicate their support/opposition by barking back. I'm too lazy to open google and double-check this right now.

*Edit:* okay, I googled it anyway. They vote by sneezing, not barking. If enough dogs sneeze, they agree to keep hunting.

Not to mention that they have insane stamina. Imagine getting chased by one of them whose average speed is like 50-60kmh.

A very misunderstood animal. Especially from all the comments from people who only watch videos of them eating their food.
Yea, sure, it's not pretty. But, that's how they are built and designed. They travel fast, they hunt fast and they eat fast. Beautiful animals.

If i remember correctly. These wild dogs also have long term endurance. Meaning they can run down prey till the prey loses their endurance to run.
