When I built my aviary, predators that I didn't even know existed came to kill my birds. They are SO freaking crafty.

I have parakeets and cockatiels but I’m dealing with a horrible roach infestation what do you recommend to get rid of the roaches without hurting my birds?

I use sticky traps with small openings so the birds do not get caught. They are always by the birds. It is amazing how many small bugs are caught. It is also good to keep to keep them in your house (under furniture).

You left out snakes, they're smarter than rats. I hate roaches, disgusting as hell.

They do a good job in the aviary of eating bird poop and cleaning up spilt food. If you get too many just add a species of bird that will eat them like white rumped shama or created partridges.

looking fantastic!! thanks for all your hard work and videos. Make sure to get food-grade Diatomaceous Earth. It is safer if the birds eat it.

What is the tree plant in your aviary?

DE doesn't work when it is moist. Permethrin-powder or boric-acid powder is probably way-way-way more effective. I'd suggest you just fog the expensive IG Regulators, the insect growth regulators only last 21 days but they attack developing bugs & are very-very effective IMO. I sprayed 12 gallons of $.25c nerve-agent for mosquitoes the other week, the cheap synthetic version lasts about 8 weeks where the bifenthrin only lasts about 4 weeks. I actually spray all three b/c they attack different bugs with different levels of efficiency.

Why not feed the roaches to your birds? Blend them up with egg food. Great source of protein.

Those are periplaneta australasiae, they have great difficulty living indoors. Furthermore they are a great food source

Furthermore they keep the German cockroaches away as well, and those can live in your house.

I also see some Periplaneta americana as well. Also have some difficulty living indoors unless you have a source of water available 24/7.

I always relocate the Periplaneta roaches to a nature park I feel bad for killing something that isn't really pestiferous.

Don’t worry I can’t say it either and get made fun off haha both my finches love it and my old Quail used to love it too. I use borax to annihilate roaches I’ve seen it take them out before. They despite it. That and the pest man. I hate them. I literally had a DIY indoor aviary at my old place and my ex roommate had an invasion in his part of the house and I developed a phobia. Now after being in a house fire in July we split the birds and I’m back with my family for a little bit and I haven’t seen any roaches thus far as it’s a totally different area here.. KNOCK ON WOOD.. but I’m doing it all alone and I’m in over my head. I’m trying to renovate the aviary and make it snake proof (in Australia) so I’m looking for some tips
