Managing Continence Issues in Secondary Schools

This short film highlights how common continence are amongst teenagers and how important it is that these young people are supported at school. Find out how ERIC, The Children's Bowel and Bladder Charity have been working with researchers at the University of Bristol to raise awareness amongst teachers of 'hidden' wee and poo problem. Hear from some young people who are living with incontinence and the effect this can have on them at school.

Well done ERIC. I'm saddened that schools have this issues - I myself had these issues at schools. I haven't been hooked into a short film like this for a while because they aren't sensitive enough. But this is very well put together.

I do personally think that toilet passes aren't the ultimate goal. At the end of the day, if they are undiagnosed or suffering in private, they won't be able to get a toilet pass. Toilets are a basic human right! Everyone goes!

Im 15 and I still have to wear a nappy because well my incontinence is phyalogical not phycical, my incontinence is due to my ocd but its still realy hard, lucky for me I have a support teacher in lesson because I have autism and stuff, so I have someone to talk to if I have an issue or something

As a college tutor, I am absolutely baffled that schools manage behaviour by restricting access to toilets! However unpleasant jail is prisoners are not restricted access to toilets - so why adults see fit to restrict the access of children is beyond me! Obviously you encourage people to go at break and lunch - this isn't always possible - I must say if an odd child going to the loo is so disruptive for a lesson - then they need to plan better lessons!
