What Happened to ERIC ROBERTS?

In the 1985 cult classic Runaway Train, Buck McGeehy is a ruggedly handsome man whose impulsivity is nearly his downfall. Though he stares death in the face, he ultimately declared “I don’t wanna die!” and was able to comfort another. “We gonna be alright. We gonna be fine.” Ultimately, it’s his risk-taking, determination, and defiance of convention that drew people to him and enabled him to be successful. Eric Roberts, who portrayed Buck in the film, nearly had his career and even his life derailed soon after the train left the station. A promising start steered him right into temptations that almost got the better of him, but his tenacity, tireless work ethic, and the support of others propelled him toward perseverance and helped him get back on track toward the most prolific acting career in Western Cinema. What stops were there along the way?

Between him and his sister, he was (and still is) the better actor in my opinion

Eric Roberts can star in big budget and small budget movies around the same time and still show off his charisma.

Super super nice guy. Have met him twice. I was telling him how his movie, To Heal a Nation, made my father cry and that was the only time Ive seen that happen. He was genuinely touched and thanked my dad for his service. His wife did not seem to remember that role (she was with him), so he told her about the character he portrayed. Lovely man.

Eric has also been married to his wife for over 30 years. Pretty rare in Hollyweird.

My friend is a huge fan of the Stalked By My Doctor franchise. So I got him a cameo and I thought it was low effort it would be funny. Eric gave a genuinely lovely and message. Gave personal recommendations for books and music related to my friends' interests. It was outstanding for even the level of the average cameo video. He delivered far above what was expected.

Thank you for this video!
I think Mr Roberts is an outstanding actor… in the past I wondered why he was on so many crappy movies, but it just made me respect him even more. No matter the role, no matter the budget and no matter the script, he’s always good, he always makes an effort.
Now, instead of wondering why he’s in some bad movies, I wonder why other A List actors don’t do the same.

Thank you for doing this! This man has always been one of my favorite actors in the world. Pope of Greenwich Village really needs a 4K blu-ray reissue. Star 80 too.

“Runaway Train” is still one of the finest and most powerful overlooked movies of the 80s. Just an overall amazing movie with a performance of a lifetime by Jon Voight and Eric was great

He overcame his demons and ended up being one of the great character actors of our time.

Eric’s a great, great actor…easily better than “stars” of recent times!
He doesn’t get to play the roles he once did, but he appears in everything and can still make money doing what he loves…
And he has classics where he played an important role… The Pope of Greenwich Village is one of the most underrated films ever (him and Mickey Rourke were amazing together), Runaway Train, Best of the Best, Star 80, so on…
