__________

In this new episode of chordal lessons, I am showing you 3 guidelines that you can follow to create your own dark ambient guitar chords.

1 - Have a low center of gravity (thickest strings)
2 - Add open strings along with your fretted notes
3 - Build your chord with as many notes in a row from a minor scale that you can (ex: 1 - 2 - b3 - 4)

I explain everything more in detail in this video. Enjoy!

And take 1 second to like this video, it helps support the channel. Thank you :)

The opeth song is in my time of need. He is not joking when he said opeth songs are a gold mine for these kind of chord progressions.

It's from the Opeth song "In My Time of Need".

Opeth - In My Time Of Need (it's one of the first songs I've learned to play from them). Amazing band, through and through!

You have good hands for playing the guitar. Unfortunately I have not played these particular chords before even after almost 50 years and my fingers cannot make all these stretches just yet, but its good to know whats possible. Thank you again, Antoine!

A break down of Matt Uelmen's work from both Diablo 1, 2 and their subsequent expansions = tense chord progression goldmine, as well.

imo, Tristram and Rogue Encampment are the strongest examples, but diving deeper into his full body of work is well worth the time it takes to, you know,

stay a while and listen. 😏

It's as it puts me in "the last of us" series, listening to that music

Very good explanation and I really appreciate the emphasis on creating chords from the notes, as opposed to just showing off a heap of chords, thanks from Australia :)

It's amazing. But seems very difficult too. Congratulations. A little note of sound is like a thousand worlds and fellings.

I wonder why this is so new to me. I have browsed instructional music learning videos for years and I'm just now coming across it !!!!.

It's kinda cool to find out my natural way of playing actually being explained to me. I always hear my music sounds really depressing and I never could explain it since I'm not musically trained beyond reading sheet music. Kudos.
