Crow Funeral (American Crows, Portland, Oregon)

This is a crow funeral. The deceased crow is likely a fledgling. I am not sure how they died, but I noticed the body as I was feeding my neighborhood crows, and had my camera on me to film the funeral (I was also a participant, as this crow was one I would see daily).
Although crows obviously have different concepts of death, grieving, and privacy, I ask that any comments please show respect for these intelligent, social, emotional beings.
This happened in the evening. The next morning I contacted Portland General Electric, and they removed the body the same day.

I appreciate you posting this. I feel your sadness, as well. It's always a tragedy when one of these marvelous birds passes, but doubly so when they're just a fledgling. They have culture, just as we do. I wish more people respected that.

I believe I witnessed this today. I have been placing special snacks for my friends for months and sometimes swear that they are directly berating me for food when there's none out...I obviously oblige immediately 🥰 they are such amazing creatures. So sorry you had to witness this, yet so happy you got the experience and shared it. The murder near my house was so loud I had to walk over and see what was going on. I thought maybe they were taking their young out for first flight or something...but the cries they were letting out definitely left this same eerie negative feeling, like something horrible had gone wrong 🥺🥺I held back tears until I heard your sniffle😭😭 then I lost it with ya 😫
Big hugs from just south of you 🤗🤗

Thank you for posting this. Crows are indeed wonderful intelligent creatures, yet all too often misunderstood. My condolences on the loss of one of your fine feathered friends.

The crows are probably more used than us to a certain share (which is quite high, around 50%) of their young dying within the first several weeks. But it may feel worse than with other animals if you consider how much this life could have "achieved". Fly high.

Wow, how very sad for these beautiful creatures. Crows are amazing birds, so so smart, i feed a family of them where i live and have been doing so for the past 2 yrs. They brought their new fledglings this past season to see me and get them accustomed to me . They look after me and i look after them. Their funerals are so sad. Much respect for these birds.

I'd say our local jackdaws, magpies, crows and rooks know me... when i run to an alarm call, I'm nether dive bombed or mobbed.
Adams sister even flew back slowly from draculas cat attack while holding a jackdaw...low slow and calm from all the corvids
