G-STAR 2022: Global game exhibition is back in full with big industry names making their returns

"G-STAR 2022" is now on.
Arguably the biggest game exhibition in South Korea brings together avid gamers and producers.
Song Yoo-jin turns the spotlight to some of the hottest names introduced at the event.

Gamelovers here in South Korea have something to look forward to as the year comes to an end.
That's because it's time for the annual global game exhibition G-STAR one of the most established game trade shows in the world.
And the 18th edition kicked off on Thursday in South Korea's southern port city of Busan.

"South Korea's biggest game exhibition is back in full scale for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19.
This year, nearly a thousand companies from over 40 countries are taking part and running their booths, so that gamers can try out the latest games."

The keyword this year is "comeback."
Popular Korean gaming giants are back like interactive games specialist NEXON, after four years away.

"We haven't had the chance to interact with our gamers in person over the past few years.
So for this year, we focused on providing a hands-on gaming experience.
People coming to our booth can play our four new games: Mabinogi Mobile, KartRider: Drift, DAVE THE DIVER, and The First Descendant right away."

Another domestic game developer, NEOWIZ, made its return to the exhibition after 10 years away.
Its booth features the highly-applauded role-playing game 'Lies of P', which bagged three trophies at the 2022 Gamescom Awards, one of the most prestigious prizes in the industry.

Exhibition regulars are part of the lineup too.
Like KRAFTON, the maker of the battle royal game, PUBG.
It's providing a sneak peek at an upcoming game that's been created by its independent studio.

"The Collisto Protocol is an all-new game from Striking Distance Studios.
It comes out December 2nd and it is a survival horror action game.
And you get to experience this world and basically, the idea is survive the horror of a deep space prison."

Though it was the first day, the venue was packed.

"Looking at this crowd makes me think that I made the right choice to come here early today.
I think there are a lot of interesting things to check out this year."

The event runs until Sunday and besides the main exhibition,
there will be a conference with industry insiders, business networking opportunities, and a game cosplay award.
