This helps a ton when you are trying to squeeze through gaps at gates. Form them into two ranks and rapidly click infront of them where you want them to go. I wish they would do pressure type mechanic so your unit in combat could push and pull their opposing melee unit. So you could form gaps on purpose for stuff like choke points.

Or you could doubly penetrate two different gaps, with a hefty width of two units. Make sure the length of the units is long enough so that you can ram them really deep in to each gap. The width is the most important to get right though, because you need the units to have that unit-splitting penetrating power - but you don't want them touching, as that would negate the benefit of the double penetration. Plus, you don't want the two units brushing up against each other because they could either end up competing, or fighting, or getting distracted - any of which could cause one or both of the units to lose charging strength.

This should also be a good reminder for defensive factions to always form shield walls with no holes or else this will happen easily and you will lose

I’ve seen this tactic being used by ai. I was in a battle and they used a long rod of war hounds to navigate through my choke point
