So, watching this video and it’s entirety convinced me to stop charging my E bike inside the house. Yesterday I moved the charger out to my patio on concrete with the battery on concrete blocks away from the building. I’m using the certified listed charger that is appropriate for the battery along with a timer. Also a properly sized 8 foot extension for the surge protector that the charger plugged into. This was very easy to just pop the battery off the E bike couple more steps in the process but great peace of mind.

And This Is What Happens When People Tamper With What The Company Put Together..I 100% Agree With You

Standardization should be a goal so that modifications aren’t as dangerous.

That’s for this video and explanation. I have several ANKER devices and this particular one for my iPhone
It’s a PD TYPE
NO CE, IL or any that you mentioned.
I see VI, TUV, PSE
This was a two pack with Anker cables from COSTCO.
What gives from a big manufacturer like ANKER,
Thank you

My condo board has heard enough of e bikes causing fires. They now built a bunch of special outdoor bike sheds and ordered every ebike to to not be stored inside condo suites. A recent apartment fire in NYC killed 19 that was started by a malfunctioning or defective e bike charging system.

I plugged the wrong rc airplane battery into a charger. Instant fire, no way to easily put out. Chucked the battery into a window well with rocks. the fizzing and smoke lasted for hours. bought a fire extinguisher after that but wondered about the damage to my lungs.

Thanks for this. I will go through my chargers tonight and look for the markings.

Same thing happened in the vaping industry as people were building their own “mods” without following battery etiquette. I wish there was a battery available for the grizzly but I don’t trust that I can do it smart and safe.

Had a small electrical fire under the seat of one of my ATVs years ago. Was the same day I bought it. The dealership hadn't wired the battery properly which is what caused the fire. They had to replace it all as it was considered their fault.

getting to be a real big problem in nyc. the delivery bikes are used 13+ hrs a day every day. the orig batteries are dead and the new batteries are bootleg and causing massive fires and injuries

Hey Mike, my goal is to talk to you since you're civil and logical here, not the rest of your comment section🤣🤣I agree the majority of the issues with fires and damage is due to user error, I just want to point out two things. There is the slight chance of a faulty charger, battery, balancer, wiring etc straight from the factory. Theres a chance with everything, you could be struck by lightning tomorrow, you have to accept some risk. I'm not sure of the actual statistic, but I'd imagine user error with fueling and working on your gasoline vehicle leads to a comparable amount of damage/number of fires. So people shouldn't be scared because the new thing has issues, when the old thing has issues too! Also, I agree most people who hate on the mines are uneducated but the way you worded it in the video didn't take into account how much more lithium goes into a whole Tesla. Overall, great video, I love your content, keep killing it Mike!

Good video. I ordered an ebike and was worried about the battery after watching all the spooky videos

Fede on point with a lot people take batteries for granted and don't think how little it takes to short a battery out and that causes fires. This is like vape gear 95 percent of battery issues with those are user error I'm glad mechanical mods fell out of favor for regulated since many had no idea what ohms law is.

I've been using bosch ebikes for 5 years now and have confidence in it because it's a premium product made in germany

The wide charger you took with no certification comes with the Chinese ebikes called Arrow and similar, all delivery guys in New York use those, someone needs to check on that

Glad I bought a verified bike battery from heybike race model. Thank you for putting me at a bit of ease. Now I don’t charge to 100% since the probability of this and if you charge to 100% constantly you get less overall miles. But it’s good to be safe rather than sorry

now you got me all paranoid I purchased my first ebike about 3 months ago it’s a cheaper one Sohoo brand. I almost have about 550 miles on it now I’m afraid it’s gonna catch on fire lol I’m going to carry a small fire hydrant now 💀😂

All these ebike fires and other lithium ion battery fires can pretty much be avoided if the manufactures just switch to lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry. Yes the battery will have to be 18% bigger to get same range but it will last 2 to 3 times longer. Can be charged to 100% without damaging the battery. Can be discharged to a much lower percentage without damaging it. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are incredibly difficult to catch fire even when physically damaged. If they do catch on fire they don't burn as intense as a lithium ion battery fire and can be put out with regular water. On top of that they are cheaper to manufacture. The only thing that needs lithium ion batteries are small drones where every ounce of weight makes a big difference. So if you ebike has a 20 pound lithium ion battery all you need is a 23.6 pound lithium iron phosphate battery to replace it.

I think if they are going to scam you they will. My ebike charger has all those logos on but the UK plug is not correct. In the UK the plug needs to have a fuse in it. The only way I can think of to fully protect yourself is do not charge inside and if you need to because you live in an apartment use a lipo battery bag that will contain the explosion and fire. They bags are cheap enough when you just spent all that cash on a bike.
