Lean and Industry 4.0: What's next for Operational Excellence Research?

Industry and academia have relied on the teachings of the Toyota Production System and lean to achieve Operational Excellence for decades. But the growing interest and application of many disruptive technologies, such as the internet of things, AI, drones, additive manufacturing etc. challenge the use of traditional lean tools and ideas. Managers are often heard lamenting, “Lean? We’ve done it!.” What does the future of operational excellence look like in the new digital age, and what does it mean for research? An all-star panel will discuss these and related questions.
