Nintendo being a decade behind the times once again comes in handy as it renders them immune to tech-bro grifts.

It’s almost like replacing talented artists with generic blended slop will result in a massive drop in quality.

The only reason EA is all for it is because they wanna stop paying writers, programmers, and actors.

Say what you will about Nintendo but they've always been one to do their own thing for better or worse.

Gaming companies can barely make good games as it is.

A.i is not going to fix that

One thing that I can give Nintendo is that they are consistent in their take on Intellectual Property. They dont want to utilize something that may be in conflict with others IP. On the same coin, they dont want anyone to take their IP's old games and freely distribute them, despite the fact that they aren't selling said old games.

I wouldn't say its morally considerate, its just legally considerate.

Because anything AI makes ***cannot*** legally be copyrighted, Nintendo's take makes sense in light of their entire history.

If you ask me. Generative AI is better as a toy than a tool. Though I do understand that it could be used as a tool if used properly.

I'm a graphics designer and an illustrator, and I'm really glad Nintendo took this route. Also, YOU have a based take on AI, YongYea. You really did your research well, and have a very comprehensive opinion on this subject.

Ai slop generators can never replace a sentient, conscious team member who collaborates and iterates with feedback. simple as.

For a company as legally minded as Nintendo it's no surprise, they claim its because "they don't need it" but that's just PR speak, the real reason is that AI is a legal mind field rn and Nintendo of all companies knows that very well

AI should be used to handle the more mundane and repetitive tasks. In terms of actual _new_ content, that should stay with the designers and the creatives.

Generative AI is supposed to be just a fun toy to make memes and stuff like Frank Sinatra sing the Dragon Ball Z intro.

For serious, commercial productions, AI is just a terrible idea, it's like a seal of "We have no money" or "We are cheapskates".

Say what you will about Nintendos stupid PR moves. When it comes to management moves, they're pretty good.

Whoa, one of the most hawkish video game companies on their intellectual property rights, *_being considerate of intellectual property rights?!_* You don't say!

A based take on AI for sure, but certainly not a surprising one coming from Nintendo.

This isn't really a matter of Nintendo being principled. They know their brand rests largely on a perception of quality, and that generative AI creates, at least for now, trash. They're just making the right moves to protect their profit.

Went to see a movie today and guess who's name I see in the credits as the voice of Lance Slashblade? YA BOI YONG YEA

I wouldn't expect less from the company known for, among many other things, striking absolutely anything that has to do or vaguely resembles any of their IPs, made by fans.

I guess it's a positive this time around.

What if instead of replacing artists and designers with AI, we replace CEOs and executives with AI?
