One rule you got wrong and it has a pretty huge impact on the game: Defenders don't deal damage to the attackers. They only ever deal damage back if they have retaliate and even then they deal their defense (not attack) in stab damage.

Having defenders deal their atk back to attackers would have a big negative effect on the game because you have to spend an action to attack but not to defend. It would make you hardly ever want to attack. Maybe this is why the game felt slow to you?

Any way, I really enjoyed this game. I disagree with your complaint about it being deterministic. Sure if the opponent leaves no actions to use on your turn then you can get away with the actions you want to (this is good imo). However, if they save even one action it makes deciding to cast spells or to attack with certain characters very tense as you try to deduce what possible counter they may have for your actions.

It looks like this is supposed to replicate a JRPG, which would mean that there would be some sort of speed mechanic to determine player order, and that the attacker gets to decide the defender--these might make for good house rules to speed up the game.

Seems a little overwrought, but I really like the idea and the art style. What are the plans for the future in terms of cards and support? Set expansions or random booster packs?

OMG that No mention of the suitcase sized box for essentially a card game? On what shelf could I ever hope to store that thing? Ridiculous.
