Building and testing Lego cars that can drive on sand without getting stuck. Gradually improving the vehicle until it can cross all kinds of obstacles like holes, slopes and hills while adding weight. Things to consider: Tires, steering, differential lock, all wheel drive, suspension, weight distribution, gear ratio, motor power and number of axles.

I find it amazing how as soon as you hit the 1kg point, suddenly complexity had to skyrocket to make sure it could keep functioning. Then that complexity added even more weight which meant even more complexity.
