Introduction tutorial showing basic of the application and writing a very simple Android app to run on your phone.

In this video we look at the first subs created in any new application, what these are for. Then open the designer and show how to load a layout from the designer into your app and react to a user pressing a button.

UPDATE! I've uploaded a fulll game with source code written using Basic4Android and LibGDX, see it here and grab the source code:

Please consider supporting this channel by purchasing Basic4Android via the following link to the B4X site.

As a new user, I was wondering too.

In the program, click on Tools --> Run AVD manager to download the files if you don't already have them all. If you have them all, click on close in the Android SDK Manager Log which displays the fetched files. In Android SDK Manager click on the tiny red hand in the bottom right to stop the download. In Android SDK Manager click on tools --> Manage AVD's . When the Android virtual Device Manager is display, click on New and make and New Device.

Yes, you can download something like paint.net which is free and allows you to select areas of the graphic and delete them. This will make those sections transparent. I'll cover this in the next video.

Before you connect your phone to your PC, go into your phone settings, goto developer options and tick "USB debugging" then connect the phone to your PC and basic4android should detect it when you tell the designer to connect to your phone, or try compiling and running a program. If that doesn't work, then you may need to check you have the right USB drivers for your phone on your PC.

Looking forward to more tutorials. Just playing around with your example. I changed the background to a different colour and the ship still has a black background. Is there a way to set certain pixels (by colour I guess) to be transparent to the background they're passing over? Thanks!!

Click on the New Device after you made it in Android Device Manager and click on Start. Then click on Launch. Wait for the Emulator to lauch. Now we need to connect to the emulator. Go back to the Designer tool's screen and click on Tools --> Connect to Device/Emulator . Click on the emulator and see if the emulator changes to reflect the code in your program. If not Connect to Device again.

When you clicked on the Run button, you were prompted to type in the Package Name, and Label. It did not bring them prompts up for me. It just compiled and told me it was successfully completed. I used my Asus tablet as my emulator connected through B4A Bridge. Can you explain why I wasn't getting the same prompts you were? Thank you.
