DNA double helix: how James Watson and Francis Crick cracked the secret of life

The secret of life is written in the double helix structure of DNA.

Dr Mark Hirst of the Open University and Prof Robert Budd, curator of medicine at London's Science Museum, discuss how Francis Crick and James Watson made their discovery 60 years ago this week: how they took what was already known about DNA, an image from the brilliant x-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin, and added two key insights of their own to propose the structure of DNA.

If anyone is here for school then i have so much love hope and respect for you all! These are exciting times Consider yourselves so lucky that you have this kind of knowledge at your disposal and we are finally as a species starting to take religion out of the science lessons.

Rosalind Franklin didn't come up with the final structure, but yes, without her data it would have been impossible. Her X-Rays were the final key, but no one was able to decipher them because they showed a 2 dimensional image. These two nuts stole the data and still couldn't crack the structure, till Crick dropped LSD and it hit him. Rosalind Franklin really did 99% of the work, and LSD did the remaining 1%. Sad that those very same X-Rays ended up killing her

The secret to Life is understanding Time and why it is relative to Space. IMO they both failed to see what Franklin saw in the DNA's X-Rays: a pendulum connected to Life, the source of time. Consciousness has Mass, and Mass is in oscillation. Points of observation increase expo in a harmonic octave structure complete with 2 harmonic commas responsible for the force of gravity & black hole formation as CERN's neutrinos @ v-c/c=2.48e-5 matching SLAC's E158 data of WF Asy shows by matching.

It's clear that the discovery of the structure of DNA could not have been done without the information that Franklin, Wilkins, and Chargaff contributed. However, Franklin and Chargaff in particular, were also closed-minded on their approach to the understanding DNA and somewhat secretive about their work. If Watson (and Crick) had not gained access to their findings, the discovery of the structure and function DNA might have been delayed for years.

Crick and Watson? That's just wrong!

They ripped it off another scientist without her knowing.

They didn't 'crack' anything. Rosalind Franklin discovered the secret of life, and Watson and Crick stole her data and wrongly took the credit.

I salute James Watson for his honesty, courage and scientific integrity. No more academia lies and censorship!

This feels like Siskel and Ebert. I'm half expecting them to decide whether or not this should have garnered a Nobel.

Is the double helix the only structure that could explain the way bases are paired?
