Lehenbauer: Processional in G major | Hauptwerk VI, Masterworks Skinner, Convolution Reverb

Phil writes, "This processional organ work was composed in 2021 as a thank you to organist Vidas Pinkevicius, who has begun a series of YouTube recitals to play all of my compositions. You can see/hear them all here:

This was a great piece to showcase the En Chamade trumpet of the 1928 Mount Carmel Skinner from Milan Digital Audio - this is the "Masterworks" edition which is recorded completely dry. I have had this set for some time but it is only recently that I have come to terms with the possibilities of the Hauptwerk mixer. I send the dry audio through a series of impulse response perspectives, to create this effect which sounds great in my room!

I am routing all 4 of Hauptwerk VI's perspectives to different points on the mixer. In addition to keeping one perspective dry, I am adding one each of Sonus Paradisi's "Groningen" impulse responses to create a simulated close, distant, and rear perspectives. These are then mixed down to stereo for the recording.

The mix we here in this recording is approximately:
Dry 50%, Close 50%, Distant 30%, Rear 100%

Sampleset:
MasterWorks E.M. Skinner (Dry)

What a grand stately atmosphere this lovely composition creates. Not too pompous so we would be able to use this for many events. I can imagine a congregation sitting there looking all around at the wonderful building they are in soaking up the procession in anticipation of whatever was to follow. My humour goes on to think that it might be followed by someone heavily miked up with a strong Liverpudlian accent…”Ah eh folks, welcome to evryone’ere eh”. 🤣

It's a work made with my favorite composition. G major is cheerful, cozy, and wraps around me whenever I hear it. Your performance brings out the atmosphere of this work well.

I think we all need a Jerry Martin master class on the inner workings of Hauptwerk!

Very beautiful performance, Jerry of equally beautiful piece by Phil! I have FOMO recording it myself too, of course.

Amazing what the Hauptwerk software can do! And as Richard remarks, you seem to be the master, Jerry, when it comes to adding reverb effectively to dry instruments! (If only Hauptwerk could remix any wrong notes played when I am performing and make them the right notes!). It is wonderful to hear another recording of Phil's 'Processional in G major' written as a thank you to Vidas, who is recording all of the Lehenbauer oeuvre. The en chamade trumpet is a magnificent solo reed for this piece: bravo!

This is wonderful, Jerry, and I’m very honored by your beautiful playing! And I continue to marvel at your technological knowledge. I hope you will plan a trip to Florida so you can install that en Chamade trumpet on my church’s organ!. 😊

Fantastic work on adding a reverb to this very dry organ! From the video you showed me yesterday - the work this has taken is far beyond my own understanding of the routing mixer (I know who to turn to when I’ll be setting up the new organ…!). Hope your preparation for the weekend’s shenanigans is going well x

Fantastic! What an immersive sound you get. It comes very close to the organist’s experience you get when you play at night, alone in a dark church. Beautiful. I have 3 young children so, it’s playing with headphones… What kind of speakers do you have?
