Ford Transit Custom | First look at the all-new 2024 model

Ford’s ever-popular Transit Custom becomes even more slick and efficient.

If the Transit Custom needs an introduction, then you really haven’t been paying attention. It is the absolute acme of panel vans and arguably the one that people think of the most when they think of the word ‘van.’ While the competition has its merits, the likes of the Opel Vivaro and Peugeot Expert have never managed to break through the public consciousness in quite the same manner. Arguably, only the Volkswagen Transporter and Toyota HiAce come close.

Still kept that daft rear door seal design that can be ripped loading and catches all the debris and water - why? the mk5- mk6 and mk7 had the seal on the door which left a clear run and can sweep out

The rear wheel arches look a right mess with no arch liner, and on the drivers side, you can see a handful of wire connectors right beside the rear wheel, just in the right place to get wet and mucky with no protection at all, some one could even unplugged them, definitely need an arch liner fitted for protection

I picked mine up last week. Not a great fan of it at all. Every time I jump in to drive it I have to turn off the speed limit bleeper (not a permanent setting to stay off unfortunately). It sometimes tells me to put my hands back on the steering wheel... they're already gripping to the wheel? odd warning... Then there is another stupid warning, when I overtake a parked vehicle on the road, it assumes i'm going to collide with it, because i'm such an idiot for hitting parked cars all the time, silly me.

On the previous model I had an 80 ltr tank, done me well for fuel every week. Now It's been downgraded to a 50ltr tank, why?? i've lost 200 miles of range because of this. Don't get me started on the turbo lag ooft! terrible for boost. Sport mode is meh, a pointless effort to implement.

The inner arches have no plastic protection, it's all bare, a nightmare to try and keep clean and prone for rotting once the road salts get under the paint. No ply on the floor in the back its the slippery plastic crap (cheap and cheerful again) best to cut out some carpet like i did and staple it to the floor, does the job well and it only cost £45 and 2 hours of my time.

There are many other things I can say I don't like about it, but what do I like? well, the smoked rear lights are a nice touch. The alloy wheels set the van off nicely and the sound system is a lot better, very impressed with it.

What's the towing capacity on the diesel models?

I've been really looking forward to potentially placing an order for the electric 160 KW Sport version but you stated the usable battery capacity is just 64 kWh. All the Ford presentation videos through the past year have said the usable battery capacity would be 74 from a gross
battery capacity of 82 kWh. The expected WLPT was to be 380 KM, but now I find another recent video showing an e-Tansit Custom at a commercial show somewhere in Europe with an info sign next to it still stating a gross battery capacity of 82kWh but as you stated a usable capacity of just 64kWh and no mention of what WLPT will be. As someone that was hopping to go for the H2 L2 max body size, this reduction of 10 kWh's is an absolute deal breaker for me!! I guess Ford want to play extra safe in reducing the capacity. May wait and see what VW will rate their version of T7. I've just been on to Ford UK's website and sure enough they are showing a revised down max range if just 205 miles thats 330km's but on Ford Irelands site its still 380km. Slow on updating! What a shame..

And still as easy to break into and get robbed...
When are these van manufacturers going to get it.... we are not interested in the fancy shit in the cab we want a van that is difficult to break into using a sharp screwdriver...!!!!
When a manufacturer makes a secure van that needs extreme actions to break into they will take over market over night because we will want that van... it’s simple really, highly secure van = very high sales....
