Making Mary Sue characters actually helped me grow as a writer I think.

I’m very glad I can write better now though lol. Now I can look at my characters and go “Wow I can actually write cohesive stuff”

I do understand why people might think this, but being a Mary Sue has very little to do with their personality or looks/backstory? If that makes sense??
It's mostly about the following/pov of the writing.

One Punch Man is technically a Gary Stu (Mary Sue but male) in terms of personality but people love him because the writing doesn't entirely focus on him and the conflicts don't fall on him entirely. Sure, he's super powerful, more powerful than Blast who's known as the strongest Hero ever, but his experiences at the end of the day is just normal. He lives with a cyborg, and meets people who aren't normal, sure- but he himself has very average problems and desires, like sales in supermarkets, expensive beef and all those types of things. That's how he's relatable as a main character.

If you want to have fun- say in roleplay or something along those lines, it's fine to make a Mary Sue, because maybe all you want to do is just make people happy or make yourself happy and THAT'S OKAY.

You write for yourself and it's okay to have wish fulfilment or to make completely outlandish things come true because it's fiction. It's supposed to be a brief escape from reality for yourself and that's okay.

You want to have your character who has two different eye colours (because you like both of those colours and they're super cool together) and can basically do anything and have magic (because conflict is difficult to live through or maybe you're not experienced enough in problem solving and this is much easier) and have lots of friends who are nice and you travel to different dimensions?
That's great!
You're having fun and you're enjoying yourself. It's a good thing.

Having no flaws forces the story to move away from the character because emotional investment is necessary for any conflict and if the character can just solve the problem with a snap of their fingers, it get boring for readers who have no stake in the character. But the writer might enjoy it and that should be enough in the end. The audience isn't paying the writer for the most part, so they don't get to dictate what happens in the story at all.

Also, mary sue always has to have all the animals like her. Especially birds. There should always be a scene where birds gather around her or at least where she is holding one. Preferably while singing.

I actually didn't think people would notice about the second Mary Sue being Aphmau. I really thought people would just pass it on as another character XD. It was probably because of the boys showing up at the end. Kinda assumed the glasses would hide it lol.

mary sues in x reader fanfictions are honestly one of the most annoying, i remember finding an x reader for haikyuu where y/n is a national-level player and that she's an all-rounder and that her skills match or even surpass the haikyuu characters' skill, mind you she's just a high schooler in the timeline of the story. i dropped it almost too instantly as she was so perfect, it might as well be an x oc if it's like that smh.
