I have a suggestion... that there are monsters from everywhere... each species is looking for something. The blue people's pearls. The green people's crystals and the red people's red fluid around their mushroom house. But because of the location they come from, the have to cross through other tribes which causes a fuss to multiple tribes.

Hey Marc, it's Justin from Art School. I wanted to suggest (if this wasn't something already in mind) to possibly turn this concept of Chroma Island into a potential MMO. All the different races you have provided, story arch/background, each section you've been developing, etc. etc. would be perfect as a MMO game. Not only do you have the perfect starting point for a good story to get people interested in it but it's only an island and leaves a entire world to be discovered by players. This is just a thought of course and my humble opinion :)

I cant tell ya how much i enjoy these videos, i have binge watched all of the episodes so far! i watched/listened to this while doing some concept sketches for my webcomic. I had hit a writer's block and hearing your thinking process and how you developed your characters/world was really motivating and helped me get back in the groove. Im so looking forward to future episodes!!!!

also this world would make an amazing tabletop game or something. not saying i demand it and that you should absolutely do it, just that it would be really cool!

Oh no! I binged all the episodes already?!
I love the idea of a bigger threat that looks from a world beyond the island.
My favourite characters so far are the Jade Sisters. I can imagine a really cool scene in which they unwillingly team up with the Red Princess to tackle one of the big bigger threats.
Can't wait for the next episode of Chroma Island. :)

I'm just watching this series now, and I had no idea this speedpaint and the latest episode in the series had a story behind it! I just saw them as random speedpaints/timelapses youtube recommended to me a bit ago- so cool I've found this series now & the story behind the timelapses/speedpaints xD<3 Loving the series so far!

Ah! I love the idea! I immediately thought about something stronger and more dangerous under the island creating and empowering those creatures. So people of Chroma obviously don't know what is causing their enemies to grow more powerful so it's like a mystery they need to unravel. Maybe they'd need to unite to figure out piece by piece what is so mysterious and evil below the island they all supposedly know so well. Milions of ways to develop this story! :D

I love how dynamic this piece is and I think that adding a new threat to the world of chroma island is a really cool idea ! So many stories to tell ^^ For the illustration itself the things I'm going to say might already be in your mind but if there is a chance that it helps you I'll do it : I personaly like the background very much and I think that overlapping the head of the blue people with the edge of the mountain would be even more dynamic and would make him even more dominant by his posture and size. I'm sure you already planned to do it but adding atleast the silhouette of the underwater bodies would add even more realism and appeal. And finally, I'm not sure but the 2 arms of the crabs being parallel might reduce a little bit the potential impact ; maybe make the right arm coming slightly towards the camera with some more water splashes so that we feel even more included in the action of the scene. It's so nice to see you back to this series I can't wait to see what's coming ! :D

Hi! Love what you're doing with Chroma island, sincerely amazing! I have kind of an obvious suggestion, but what if the orb is what attracted the creatures. What if it is constantly seeking for shelter and wherever it settles, the red people follow as a kind of self defense mechanism against the creatures, like our own immune system. And that's why it spreads where it lands, to increase its defences against the monsters.
I hope you still read comments a month later hahahaha. Keep going with this project, its awesome

The fact that the monsters resemble a weird mash mash of other critters just screams to me that they were artificially created out of these other creatures, so then I got this idea.


I haven't caught up on the lore of Chroma island for awhile, but I think it could be interesting if these sea monsters were originally created by a super ancient race on the island to protect it from foreign threats, and these monsters were sent out to faraway seas in order to do so. When the red people's orb appeared on the island these monsters basically felt a "disturbance in the force" or something, because they are intended to protect the island. The red people are seen as a foreign threat to them so they all start being recalled to this island in waves because of the way their instincts were made artificially .


So they come to deal with this weird orb, and they come across all these other races who weren't there before, and since their artificially created instinctual "programming" says to destroy foreign threats, and they decide that these are all invaders to their creator's island so they attack them. They essentially destroy all the things they "know" weren't there before and shouldn't be there, you could have them kill some plants and animals but not others, with the ones they leave alone having been there on the island long ago, this could be a hint to their nature.


Either their creators have died out, or have changed so much over the intervening years that the sea monsters don't recognize them, and conclude that they are also enemies.
