PSA: In patch 12.13 gwen R will be changed to reset after 1 second. NOT AFTER ATTACKING A UNIT ANYMORE. she did get reworked so there's alot of other changes but the R change might be the biggest one

Dorans blade for the omnivamp, together with rift maker it makes her into a really tanky champ cuz of the healing, also it gives her a little HP too, and also berserkers greaves is not too bad either if all you gonna do is push, takes towers faster, since you wont be stacking any lethal tempo while attacking towers and minions, and exhaust is also a good alternative since it will reduse the incoming damage you take from one champ in a 2v1 or from a assasin.

I realize this video is 2 years old - but as someone who's basically mained Gwen since release, I highly disagree that she's weak in the early game. The reason you give for this claim is that she has less all in potential due to slower stacking of her Q passive due to less AS. I think the argument is fundamentally wrong - a champ excelling in shorter trades and not being good at longer trades doesn't mean the champ is weak early game. Gwen's lane pressure is extremely high and I would even call her a lane bully. Due to her insane short trade potential, her early game is incredibly strong. I would literally make the opposite claim regarding her early game.

Additionally, she does have really good all in potential as well, especially at level 6 (which is still early game) but also before that. As long as you're making sure to reduce your E cd by using an auto afterwards, the ability has really low downtime and with her other abilities there's no reason she can't all in when punishing an opponent's mistake - it's matchup specific.

Edit: I specifically wanna eplmphasize that I think Gwen was NEVER considered weak in laning phase ever since her release. I'm obviously not criticizing a 2 year old video on her current state alone.

Im trying hard to get good at Gwen. Thing is Im kind of an OtP (well between 3 champs) and when I play her in ranked I struggle to have a good laning phase vs peoples of my elo ''skills''. It feel like she get punished REAL hard for having ONE bad trade pre 6 compared to many other champs. I know it prolly a me problem but heh.
