New aerial footage shows the wildfires in California spreading as firefighters struggle to contain the deadly blazes encroaching on Los Angeles.

The Palisades and the Eaton fires continued to advance as winds picked up, making it difficult for teams to contain the flames destroying homes and businesses and forcing thousands to flee. At least 16 people have been killed, many of them older residents who refused to abandon their homes. The state governor, Gavin Newsom, welcomed firefighters from Mexico, who arrived to reinforce the teams on the ground which have been battling the blazes around the clock

By comparison, North American houses appear to be much bigger than those in the UK. My brother said: "North America is a much bigger country". A fair comment! But why the overuse of wood, instead of brick? Look at the exteriors of the houses for the wealthy, it appears to be all wood, even Anthony Hopkins's home (from looking at pictures of before and after the fire damage). Like Mr. Hopkins, I too grew up in Port Talbot, in South Wales. Or, is all this wood just external decoration? My brother commented: "Anthony Hopkins is a lucky man and probably has several other properties to move into while this home is rebuilt!"🤔
