5 KRISTOFFER AJER REPLACEMENTS! 🇳🇴🍀

Kristoffer Ajer looks destined for AC Milan this window, and with him supposedly refusing to sign a new contract, it makes perfect sense to cash in. Celtic are reportedly demanding £27m for the Norwegian international!

🇳🇱 | Philippe Sandler
Age: 23
Height: 6’2
Club: Manchester City 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Contract: 30/06/22

Celtic have already signed a young Dutch defender from Manchester City this season in Jeremie Frimpong, who has recently been voted Celtic’s YPOTY. Not bad then eh? Well how about another? Sandler came through the Ajax youth academy before moving on to PEC Zwolle who also play in the Eredivise. He played 30 league games there before catching the eye of Man City and earning a move in 2018 for a fee of around £2.25m. Sadly but not unexpected, his career never quite kicked on as he’s yet to play for City’s first team. In search of more regular first team football this season Sandler signed on loan at RSC Anderlecht where he made 11 appearances. Naturally being Dutch and a product of the Ajax academy, Sandler can be considered somewhat of a ball-playing centre half with his strengths lying in his ability on the ball. Very similar to Kris Ajer in that respect!

Verdict? At 23 years of age you would imagine he’s coming to the point in his career where he would be wanting to find somewhere permanent to call home, and given the vast number of players (particularly defenders) Celtic have had from City over recent seasons, all with high levels of success, the fact he’s definitely within budget and with almost no chance of becoming a first team regular at City it seems a VERY logical move!

Realism? 9/10
Want? 7/10

🇨🇮 | Cédric Kipré
Age: 23
Height: 6’5
Club: Wigan Athletic FC 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Contract: 30/06/21

Listen people, if Celtic don’t sign Cédric Kipré then there is something seriously wrong with the scouting department at Celtic. He’s an absolute UNIT. Easily the most physical and powerful player on this list. No top two tier team in England has kept more clean sheets in 2020 than Wigan (9) and Kipré has been the heart of that defence. The big Ivorian has only been dribbled past 3 times this season and is only getting better and better. He’s proven at Motherwell he is a perfect match for Scottish football and would be an amazing addition to the Celtic defence!

Verdict? Cédric Kipré would be the best value signing on this list. He’s not had any bad injuries, he’s still very young at 23, and with Wigan filling for administration and him in the final 12 months of his contract, he’ll practically be free! Celtic should sign this boy regardless of whether they get anyone else on this list.

Realism? 10/10
Want? 9/10

🇭🇷 | Filip Benković
Age: 22
Height: 6’4
Club: Leicester City 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Contract: 30/06/23

We all know what you get with Benković. Physically very strong, an ariel threat who’s dominant in the air, fantastic tackling ability all whilst being composed on the ball. For me, this boy is the best centre back we’ve seen since Van Dijk, and importantly he seemed to love his time in Glasgow. He just gets it! His only achilles heel is the fact he seems to be fairly injury prone. I don’t need to say anymore.

Verdict? If Benković could stay injury-free then he would be the best realistic signing we could make and if we do get anywhere near £27m for Ajer then we could afford him. 100% sign this boy up permanently.

Want? 10/10

🇫🇷 | Axel Disasi
Age: 22
Height: 6’3
Club: Stade de Reims 🇫🇷
Contract: 30/06/21

France is the best value market for us to shop in. Simple as that. Axel Disasi is a very promising young, powerful centre back who has got a reputation for being a full-blooded defender who absolutely flies into tackles. An all or nothing player. He also has an impressive turn of pace about him which can allow him to recover if he makes an error. You may also not be shocked to hear that like most promising modern defenders he is more than capable of bringing the ball out from the back and getting attacks started. His negatives are that he is known to be slightly rash and is no stranger to flying into risky tackles in the box (remind you of anyone? *cough* Kristoffer Ajer *cough*).

Verdict? At 22 years of age he definitely has a bright career ahead of him. With being into the final 12 months of his contract that should also lower his value. Forming a partnership with fellow Frenchman Christopher Jullien and playing with Edouard and Ntcham could also be a very attractive prospect for him! If a deal could be agreed for about £8-10m then you would very much feel it would be a bargain!

🇩🇰 | Victor Nelsson
Age: 21
Height: 6’1
Club: FC Copenhagen 🇩🇰
Contract: 30/06/24

Victor Nelsson really is a cracking young player. Very much a ‘Rolls Royce’ of a defender. He came up through the youth system of FC Nordsjælland and instantly became a hit. Incredibly he captained the team at only 20 years old! Through his obvious talent he earned himself a move to FC Copenhagen where he has continued to shine playing 48 games this season including 8 in the Europa League, showing he isn’t injury prone. In terms of describing him as a player, he is almost a hybrid between a ball winner and a ball player. He has an incredible football brain and one of his strengths is his anticipation and being able to read the game, hence why he became a captain at such a young age! Combined with his leadership he is also a no-nonsense defender who times his tackles to near perfection.

If I can find a weakness in his game it’s that some reports from people who have watched him say he is slightly on the weaker side, however bulking up is something Celtic can get him to do.

Verdict? Possibly the pick of the bunch! At 21 years old his value will likely sky rocket and we should get in while we can! FC Copenhagen ripped our hearts out by knocking us out of Europe, so why not rip theirs out by signing one of their most prized players?

Realism? 8/10

WILDCARD:

🇫🇷 | Malang Sarr
Age: 21
Height: 6’0
Club: FREE AGENT

Sarr is a key figure for Nice, having started 16 league games this season. Despite his youth he has already captained Nice, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Toulouse. The French youngster is not the tallest centre back you will ever see, however he makes up for that with his speed and athleticism. Malang Sarr is the wildcard here purely because he might be slightly ambitious. Being a free agent means Celtic should be able to offer him higher wages due to the fact they will save millions on a transfer fee. However due to how highly rated he is, many clubs (most if not all with higher wage budgets) will be in for him meaning the likelihood of him coming to Scottish football would be very slim.

Verdict? IF and it’s a big if, Celtic could secure him on a free, it would probably be one of the best bits of business Celtic would ever do! If we offered him £80k per week that would work out at £4.16m a year. When you think about it that is definitely affordable if we got £20m+ for Ajer, especially when you consider we could easily get £30m+ for this boy!

Realism? 4/10

This video should have been 10 seconds long as only 1 good save in it. The guy has been terrible for Celtic so far, not even made one save & we paid £5 million for him. He's enever catches the ball in these saves if any power on the shot. He doesn't push the ball wide enough as he should be trying to get the ball out of play/ away from danger. He makes "camera save" dives (dives late to make it look better/ takes step away then dive to make it look better). Awful, waste of money!!
