How To Sketch and Draw Looser // My Number One Sketching Tip for Beginners

This exercise will make you sketch looser!

It's a recently simple technique to sketch and draw loose, to make your sketches more free, spontaneous and creative and to enjoy the freedom and enjoyment that comes with that style.

Seriously, it's a fool proof way and I'd encourage any beginner who wants to loosen up their sketching, to draw looser or develop a loose art style to have a go a t this technique and see what happens.

Thank you so much for this Toby! I love ink and wash sketching but had lost hope that I'd ever be able to do it again because of weak and shaky hands. Those wiggly lines and unscripted wanderings come naturally to me now. I'll just build them into my sketches and not worry about it. 😊

Thank you so much for this. I think it must go against my natural inclination to sketch loosely as I have struggled with it for ages. However, I took on board your suggestions and I was amazed at the difference they made. Deliberately drawing a line out of place; doubling back over lines and generally just going with the flow resulted in sketches I am actually quite pleased with and even proud of. A whole new world beckons. Thanks again.

Hi Toby! This is a great video. I love the challenge of intentionally making stray or flowing lines. As a perfectionist, it is a huge struggle for me to just let go and draw like you do. I was wondering, do you have any other advice for someone who is always afraid of messing up? I love to draw as a hobby, it truly relaxes me, but as an extreme novice at this medium, I feel like I have trouble completing my drawings because I inevitably make a mark or a line that I don’t like. Is there anything else I can do to allow myself a little more freedom when I sketch? I honestly think that my lack of talent isn’t holding me back from creating art I like, it’s just my self doubt.
