Funny that by 2010 comes around for real, we're still stuck in Low Earth Orbit, the Astrodome becomes abandoned, and the (original) Yankee Stadium was finished being demolished.

A lot of people did not catch John Lithgows nod to this scene with the late great Roy Scheider in the movie Intersteller.

2010 is an apology and a scant explanation for 2001 (Anyone saying that they understood the last 20 minutes of 2001 is just a plain liar).
But 2010 has two amazing things going for it.
1. The hope for global peace by a bigger brother or sister that is saying "Keep going and earth will keep spinning happily without you idiots in it!"
2. Roy Scheider
