IOC suspends Russian Olympic Committee with immediate effect

The IOC Executive Board has taken the immediate decision to suspend the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee within the IOC.

The Russian Olympic Committee is now ineligible to function as an 'Olympic Committee' and is disqualified from receiving any financial support from the IOC.

I'm glad for this decision. But I missed the suspension of the US, UK, France, Germany, Israel etc.

Where do you think the money will go? Of course they will still fund sports to avoid further internal conflict but how much will they cut from that?

Good!! After all, international sports are purely 'political' anyway. Whether you are 'fighting' for medals or territory, you are doing it for 'your' country, under your Country's flag and with your National anthem. It has little to do with Sport as competitors are representing their Country and 'winners' are the 'pride' of their nation, may end up being honoured as 'heroes' etc. Medal charts are political tools and are not about the athletes, the sports but the Countries medal haul which is 'political'!

Its more civilised than 'war' but the principal is very similar - defeat your opponents to prove your country is 'best' on the 'battlefield/sports field', get to see your Country's flag and hear the national anthem played etc...
